Neoga man killed in Effingham County crash

   Illinois State Police say a Neoga man was killed early Sunday when he drove the wrong way on Interstate 70 in Effingham County and was involved in a head-on collision. Police say 85-year-old Cecil Hardesty of Neoga was traveling the wrong way eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-70 near milepost 103 around 1:30 A.M. The second vehicle was traveling westbound on the same road. Both cars collided head on. The vehicles both came to a rest in the median. Hardesty was pronounced dead on the scene by the Effingham County Coroner. The other driver involved, 28 year-old Stephanie M. Chitwood of Seagonville, Texas, was injured and needed hospital treatment. Two passengers in Chitwood’s vehicle, 20 year-old Megan A. Vice of Pontoon Beach and 23 year-old Matthew W. Stephenson of Perryville, Missouri, also were taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment.
