Authorities Warn Area Residents of Scam

Authorities are warning area residents of a scam that’s circulating in the two-state region.  Telephone calls are being received and even the scammers themselves are stopping by area homes posing as workers claiming to be with a local utility company, demanding payments on what they say is a delinquent account, and threatening either jail time or service disconnect if not immediately paid.  Residents are reminded that local utility companies do not make such calls or visits from workers at a customer’s home.  They are urged to never make such an immediate payment and to never give out personal credit card or bank account information to anyone no matter who they say they are or who they work for.  Residents should contact their utility company directly to check the status of their account or for more information.
