Synthetic Marijuana a Factor in Friday Night Crash in Vanderburgh County

accident-2-crash-investigation-6

Synthetic marijuana is believed to have been a factor in a Friday night crash that injured a driver and seriously injured a passenger in Vanderburgh County. The crash happened just after 11 p.m. Friday night near the intersection of Highway 41 and Boonville-New Harmony Road. A red Nissan Versa was traveling north on Highway 41 before leaving the road and becoming airborne before coming to rest.  The driver and a passenger were able to exit the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries. The driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, but the passenger (who was more severely injured) was not. The driver complained of pain to her hips, chest and face. The passenger suffered back injuries and lacerations to her face and head. The driver, 44-year-old Jennifer Dunkin of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, told deputies she had used the synthetic marijuana K2 before the crash. The name of the passenger was not immediately released. Pursuant to state law regarding crashes involving serious bodily injury or death, the driver consented to a post-crash blood draw. The crash will remain under investigation pending toxicology results.
