Christian Walker and Chris Owings homered off Cub starter Cole Hamels and Robbie Ray held the Cub offense to one hit over six innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks shut out Chicago 9-0 in their series finale Wednesday night at Chase Field in Phoenix. Hamels was tagged for four runs and five hits in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the game. It was Hamels first loss for the Cubs since being obtained from Texas on July 27th. With the loss, the Cubs lead in the NL Central dropped to 2 1/2 games over the Milwaukee Brewers who beat Cincinnati at home. The Cubs have the day off Thursday and will return to Chicago to open a three game interleague series Friday against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.
