CUBS BREAK OUT BIG AGAINST TIGERS

The Chicago Cubs hit three home runs in a big offensive outburst Wednesday night to back the solid pitching of ace Jon Lester and beat the Detroit Tigers 8-2 in the final game of their two game interleague series at Comerica Park. The Cubs had scored one run in each of their last five games but broke out following a two run David Bote homer in the top of the fifth. Javier Baez hit a three run blast and Anthony Rizzo also homered to break the game open in the ninth. Lester improved to 14-5 allowing a run and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings with three relievers finishing up. The Cubs open up a four game weekend series with the Cincinnati Reds Thursday night at Wrigley Field with Anthony Desclafani (6-3) going for the Reds and Cole Hamels (3-0) for the Cubs. The game can be heard on Lite 103 WAKO beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. Central Time 7:30 Eastern.
