Alten L. Kull, 82, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois. He was born February 23, 1936 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the son of Harold E. and Dolly Mae (Conn) Kull. He married Peggy J. Hensley on June 12, 1955 and she survives.

Alten was a 1954 Lawrenceville High School graduate and attended Vincennes University. During his childhood years, Alten worked for his parents washing pans and making deliveries for Paris Bakery. He then worked at Marathon Oil Company and the Lawrenceville Post Office. In the 1960’s, he began working for Prudential Insurance. In 1971, he purchased McGaughey Insurance Company and in 1982, it became Kull Agency. Alten was very active in the community. His memberships included the First Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, where he served on the session committee for many years; Elks; Eagles; Rotary Club of Lawrenceville, where he earned the Paul Harris Fellowship Award; Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, where he served as president; Unit #20 School Board, where he served as president; Bi-State Authority; and he was one of the founding members of the TIF II River Run Estates and Lawrence County Industrial Development Council. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, and hunting.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy; one son, Roger Kull and wife, Carla, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; three daughters, Julia Castro and husband, Manny, of Savanna, Illinois, Jeanne Jerrell and husband, Rick, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Rebecca Ochs and husband, Kevin, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one brother, Charles David Kull and wife, Barbara, of Newburgh, Indiana; one sister, Janet Gravitt of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Sara Purdom and husband, Nathan, Lucas DeSpain and wife, Rachael, Ryan Kull, Jordan Kull, Madison Organ, Maizie Organ, Anthony Jerrell, and Kasen Ochs; and three great-grandchildren, Maya DeWitte, Sophia DeSpain, and Penelope Purdom.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Memorial donations in Alten’s memory may be made to the Lawrenceville Rotary Scholarship Fund, Fish & Loaves, or the East Lawrence Academic Foundation.
