Kyle Hendricks struck out eight over seven innings and Ben Zobrist had four hits including a homer to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 5-2 win over the St Louis Cardinals in the finale of their three game series at Busch Stadium Sunday night. The victory enabled the Cubs to avoid a sweep by the Redbirds and increased their lead in the National League Central to 1 1/2 games over Milwaukee. Hendricks retired the last seventeen men he faced after giving up a two run homer to Marcell Ozuna in the first inning. He allowed four hits and walked one. John Gant took the loss for St Louis  allowing three runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Yairo Munoz committed a key error that enabled the Cubs to take the lead 3-2 and then Javier Baez drove in two more to cement the win. The Cubs have an off day Monday. They travel to Pittsburgh Tuesday to open a brief two game series with the Pirates.
