Clay Buchholz pitched effectively into the seventh inning in his return from the disabled list and Steven Souza Jr reached base five times to help the Arizona Diamondbacks win over the Chicago Cubs 5-1 at Wrigley Field Tuesday night. Buchholz had been sidelined since late June with an oblique injury. He struck out five and walked two. The only Cub run came on a Jason Heyward homer in the sixth. Kyle Hendricks labored through five innings and took the loss allowing three runs on seven hits and struck out eight. Souza had three of the seven Dback hits. Cub third baseman Kris Bryant was held out of the lineup with a recurrence of the left shoulder inflammation that caused him to miss 16 games. The four game series continues Wednesday afternoon with game three pitting Robbie Ray (3-2) for Arizona against Jon Lester (12-3) for the Cubs. The game can be heard on Lite 103 WAKO beginning with the pregame programming at 12:45 p.m. Central Time 1:45 p.m. Eastern.
