Reports say the United Methodist Village has made a large payment on their overdue water bills. This coming a day after the Lawrenceville City Council met in executive session for about 45 minutes Thursday night to discuss possible legal action against the United Methodist Village. Lawrenceville Mayor Don Wagner said the Village owed over $62,000 in past due water bills. Wagner said the city council had decided to shut off a couple of “non-essential” water meters at the Village this coming Monday. Wagner said he spoke with U-M-V officials and discussed what the city council wanted to do. Wagner told officials that the council agreed to advise United Methodist Village president and CEO Paula McKnight to meet with the Utilities Board next week to see if a solution can be found. Mayor Wagner said he also spoke with the Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday. Wagner said by the time he was getting ready to leave for lunch, he had received word of a payment by the United Methodist Village of well over $50,000. Wagner says things have been resolved for the time being and that he hopes things will continue on a good note.
