Michael Wayne Shappard, age 66 of Lawrenceville, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was born March 18, 1952 in Lawrenceville to William C. Shappard and his wife Corrine J. (Clark) Shappard.
On November 28, 1981, Mike married Jennifer Mejean, and she survives.
Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History and followed that degree up with a Master’s Degree of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. He taught at Red Hill High School before retiring. After his retirement, Mike substitute taught at Lawrenceville High School until recently. Mike was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Church in Lawrenceville. He loved coaching basketball, was a historian, and sincerely loved his family.
Surviving family includes: his wife- Jennifer Shappard of Lawrenceville: three children- Rebekah Shappard and family of Lawrenceville, Calvin Shappard and family of Muncie, IN, and Jonathan Shappard of Lawrenceville: his loving grandchildren: one sister- Kim Sheltrown of Huntingburg, IN: one aunt- Gloria Casey of Springfield: one uncle- Raymond Clark of St. Francisville: and one great-aunt- Nellie Pulleyblank of Lawrenceville: and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service for Michael Wayne Shappard will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Calvary Apostolic Church in Lawrenceville. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Cunningham-Young Funeral Home of Lawrenceville is assisting the family with arrangements.
