According to the local National Weather Service offices, severe weather will be a threat this afternoon and evening. Knox County EMA Severe Weather Coordinator Chance Westfall says storm chances should increase after two p-m eastern today with the greatest severe risk occurring this evening. Damaging winds and heavy rains will likely be the primary threat in this area. An isolated tornado is also possible. Storms that develop this afternoon can become supercellular and have the potential for significant large hail. In addition, it is also expected to be a very hot day today with a high temperature around 90 and heat index close to 100 at times. Westfall reminds those who will be outside today to use caution and keep hydrated.
