Teenagers Charged After Pelicans Found Dead in Newton

    Charges being filed against two teenagers after several pelicans were found dead in Newton. Five pelicans were found dead at the Newton Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area on April 3rd. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police said two teens were being charged with the death of the birds. Both boys are being charged with unlawful taking of migratory waterfowl with a rifle, unlawful discharge of a firearm from a public roadway, unlawful firing of a rifle over or into waters of the state, and unlawfully disturbing or harassing wild birds by use or aid of a motor vehicle. Officials aren’t providing names of the suspects because they are underage.
