Two of four Lawrence County wrestlers are heading to state after qualifying this past weekend at the Vandalia sectional. Gavin Smith finished 4th in the 184 pound class after losing to an opponent from Vandalia in the 3rd place match Saturday. That 4th place finish advances him to state in that weight class. Nolan Tewell finished 3rd in the 285 heavyweight class after winning a 7-0 decision over an opponent from Warrensburg-Latham in the 3rd place match. He too will advance to the state finals in that weight. Two other Indian grapplers also competed in the sectional but failed to qualify. Zeth Stallings won his first match but then lost two to be eliminated at 132 and Jesse Cancino after a first round bye also went 1-2 and did not qualify for state at 160.
