A plea agreement is in the works for an Olney man accused of murdering an 8-year-old girl in 2016. 54 year-old Glenn R. Ramey is awaiting trial on first-degree murder and sexual assault charges in connection with the 2016 slaying of Sabrina Stauffenberg of Olney. Richland County Circuit Court records state Ramey’s case is  set for a potential negotiated open plea when he appears in court today.” During a hearing earlier this month, Ramey’s attorney also waived his client’s right to a speedy trial. A judge ruled last September that Ramey was mentally fit to stand trial. The fitness trial was moved out of Richland County to Effingham County because of pre-trial publicity. Investigators say Stauffenberg had been waiting on the front porch of her home for a ride to church when family members reported her missing. Searchers found Stauffenberg’s body several hours later near an Olney business. Police allege Ramey suffocated the victim after sexually assaulting her.
