Jack E. Hughes, 87, of Olney, Illinois passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Aperion Care in Bridgeport, Illinois. He was born January 23, 1930 in Clinton, Oklahoma, the son of Marion and Edna (Shoemaker) Hughes. He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Baker, on September 3, 1950 and she preceded him in death on December 28, 1999.

Jack was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a manager at JC Penney for over 40 years before his retirement. He was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Elks in Olney, Illinois. His hobbies included hunting pheasant and quail, fishing, and playing bridge with his wife, Norma.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Norma; one son, Brad Hughes; one sister, Maxine Bonewell; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo ‘Jack’ and Elsie Baker.

Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Hughes Piper of Lawrenceville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Justin Roy, Blake Hughes, and Macey Hughes; three great-grandchildren, Korvan Roy, Ella Hughes, and Heidi Hughes; brother-in-law, Gary Baker and wife, Jeanette, of Charleston, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military rites will be conducted on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM CST at May Chapel. There will be a private visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jack’s memory may be made to Southeastern Illinois Hospice or the Presbyterian Church in Olney, Illinois. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
