Macy’s Closing in Terre Haute, Sears Closing in Evansville

 

-Macy’s Inc. has announced that its store at Honey Creek Mall in Terre Haute will close in mid-March as part of a continuation of closures announced last summer. That Macy’s Terre Haute location had existed for 46 years and is the only one in Indiana or Illinois to be included in the latest round of closures. The store’s 61 employees found out about the closure Wednesday morning. Macy’s will close in March, but a specific date has not been given yet.

 

-Sears confirms that its Evansville location in Washington Square Mall will be closing in early April. The auto center will be closing this month,  The majority of the jobs are part-time positions, the company says.  Eligible associates will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores, according to Sears corporate. On Thursday, employees at 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores — including the one at Washington Square Mall — were informed that their stores would be closing.  Evansville and Sears share a lot of history.  The very first Sears retail store, outside of a Catalog Merchandise Distribution Center, opened in Evansville on October 5, 1925.
