Patricia Ann Melcom, age 78 of rural Sumner, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in Olney at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital. She was born January 26, 1939 in Lukin Township to Richard “Dick” Swarens and his wife Lena (Bogard) Swarens.
Ronald E. Melcom married Patricia Swarens. They were married 52 years until he preceded her in death on July 24, 2010.
Pat was a long-time member of Hopewell Methodist Church. She worked as a secretary for Wolfe’s Auto Sales in Bridgeport for many years. She was also a homemaker to her family.
Surviving family includes: one son- Kevin Melcom and his wife Susan of Olney: one granddaughter- Alyssa Rippy of Olney: one grandson- Shane Melcom of Olney: two sisters- Clara Koon and husband Ray of Olney and Donna Wessel and husband Charlie of Jasper, IN: one brother- Bill Swarens of Chicago: and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband- Ronald E. Melcom: her parents- Richard “Dick” and Lena Swarens: two children in infancy- Ronald and Rhonda: three brothers- Dan, Jackie, and Richard Swarens: and one sister- Shirley Hills.
A funeral service will be held for Pat at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Visitation will be held Friday at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
