A Wheeler man was injured in an ultralight aircraft crash in Jasper County Thursday evening.
86-year-old Arthur Michels was flying approximately 1-1/2 miles north of his residence four miles north of Wheeler when the aircraft lost engine power. Michels attempted to land and was reportedly about 20 feet above the ground when the aircraft spiraled down and crashed. Michels was taken to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
