Joe Martyn Meredith, Sr., age 82 of Lawrenceville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 27, 2017 in Lawrencville at the United Methodist Village- North Campus. He was born June 9, 1935 in Austin, Texas to Cecil Meredith and his wife Thelma.

Joe married Carolynn Royce Bevers, and she preceded him in death on November 21, 2016.

As a young man, he graduated from high school in Austin, TX and then joined the United States Marine Corps where he served during the Korean War. Joe began his ministerial education at Ozark Bible College, and he graduated from John Brown University in 1976. Joe then went on to pastor at several churches. The last church he pastored was in Lawrence County, Allison Prairie of the Brethren.

Surviving relatives include: one son- Joe Meredith, Jr., of Washburn, IL: four daughters- Tamara Meredith of Pekin, IL; Kim Meredith of Woodstock, GA; Stacey Briggs of Colorado Springs, CO; and Julie Daily and husband, Curtis, of Lynchburg, VA; and thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Thelma; one sister, Cecil Jane Meredith; and one brother, Michael James Meredith.

His family rejoices in the assurance that he will continue his service to his Lord and Savior, and they look forward to joining him there.

Mr. Meredith will be laid to rest next to his wife, Carolynn, in a private committal at the Centerville Cemetery. There will be a memorial service held for Joe Martyn Meredith at the Allison Prairie Church of the Brethren on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
