Lawrence County levee suffered damage this year

The Louisville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have released an assessment for the Russell-Allison Ambraw Levee in Lawrence County. The levee system sustained damage as a result of a high water event which occurred in the Embarras and Wabash river basins that began April 26th and extended through May 6th. The high water resulted in substantial levee embankment failure along the Russell-Allison Section of the levee system. There are three five-foot diameter storm sewer culverts that pass through a concrete structure. The embankment failure cuased a wingwall of the structure to completely separate from the headwall. The District is proposing a long-term solution that includes removing the triple sewer structure and replacing the structure with an earthen levee embankment.
