Waymond G. Mitchell, 82, of St. Francisville, Illinois passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at BridgePointe Health Campus in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born May 11, 1935 in Cecil, Arkansas, the son of Giles Lee and Vallie Frances (Wood) Mitchell. He married Joyce Buchanan on August 30, 1963 and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2015.
Waymond was a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service for 29 years; as well as a full-time farmer. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville and a 50 plus year Mason with the Sumner Masonic Lodge. He was an Army veteran. His hobbies included restoring Farmall Tractors, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren, Mitchell and Brady.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Joyce; and one brother, Eldon Ray Mitchell.
Survivors include his two daughters, Tracy Mitchell of St. Francisville, Illinois and Amy Ochs and husband, Brian, of Sumner, Illinois; one sister, Linnie Katheryn ‘Kate’ Berry of Sumner, Illinois; and two grandchildren, Mitchell Ochs and Brady Ochs.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Waymond’s memory may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, Lawrence County Humane Society, or the First Presbyterian Church.
