Alberta M. (Ash) Davis, 90, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the United Methodist Village-Main Campus in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born September 23, 1926 in Bridgeport, Illinois, the daughter of Forest and Pearl (Nelson) Ash. Pearl Ash passed away in 1944 and in 1946, Forest married Gladys Berger, who became a beloved mother and grandmother to the Davis and Ash families. Alberta married Ernest ‘Buck’ Davis on February 9, 1951 and he preceded her in death on February 23, 2014.

Alberta worked at Meissner’s Manufacturing in Bridgeport, Illinois, making walkie talkies and mine detectors for the WWII war effort. She also worked at Auto Light Factory in Vincennes, Indiana, making batteries. After she married, she became a full-time homemaker. She also worked at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital as a Red Cross Volunteer Gray Lady for 35 years. She was a member of the Hi-Way Church of God.

Alberta loved to sing. She often sang specials at church. She was also called on to sing at many weddings and funerals down through the years. Her favorite singers were Eddy Arnold and Jim Reeves.

Preceding her in death were her parents; step-mother; husband; five brothers; four sisters; and three great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, James A. Davis and wife, Nola, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; two daughters, Karen Davis-Toy of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Dena Davis of Lawrenceville, Illinois; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Hi-Way Church of God. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alberta’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Lawrenceville Senior Citizens Center, or the Alzheimer’s Association. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
