Carfentanil is used to sedate elephants

(NETWORK INDIANA)  Last year it was heroin laced with fentanyl, now police say a new batch of heroin laced with a new and more powerful drug has hit the streets and it’s in Southwest Indiana.

Police in Terre Haute responded to another overdose call this week, and an autopsy determined that the man died of an overdose due to heroin laced with carfentanil, which is an animal tranquilizer that is meant for large animals like elephants or hippos. The drug is 10,000 time more powerful than morphine.
In the United States, carfentanyl is only legal for veterinary or wildlife management use and authorities believe it is being imported illegally from China.

The DEA says that carfentanil is so potent that even the overdose treatment drug naloxone or “Narcan”, is not powerful enough to counteract it. They say just 2 milligrams of carfentanil can be fatal to humans.
