Norma Jean (Utt) Devine, 88, of Huntingburg, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 at Cathedral Healthcare Center in Jasper.

 

Norma was born January 12, 1928, in Bruceville, to the late Ernest and Frances (Lueking) Utt. She graduated from Bruceville High in 1946, and then married Robert V. Devine on November 9, 1947 in Fritchton. They moved to Huntingburg in 1950 and opened and operated Devine’s Department Store and later opened The Fabric Shop and Tots N Teens stores on Main Street in Vincennes. She closed the stores in 1974 and traveled around the United States with her husband, working for Brooker Sales until her retirement. Norma was an accomplished oil painter, loved working in her yard, a creative seamstress, and enjoyed doing crocheting and embroidery projects. She was a member of Jasper’s Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Diana Abell of Loogootee; granddaughters, Sarah Abell of Largo, FL and Anne (Sean) Hager of Huntingburg; great-grandchildren, Adara Carr of Largo, FL, and Alexander Hager of Huntingburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert on October 6, 2000; second husband, Donald Daughtery on July 3, 2011; daughter, Kathy Lynn on August 18, 1972; brother Royce Utt; and sister, Doris Garner.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Brother Gene Dunning officiating at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Bruceville Chapel. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service. She will be laid to rest at Royal Oak Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jasper Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
