A Conservation Officer assigned to Knox County has been named the District 7 Indiana Conservation Officer of the year.  He’s served in Knox County since 2013, before that Shane Cooper worked in Parke County for four years.

In addition to his normal patrol responsibilities, Officer Cooper also serves as a field training officer, sonar operator and is a member of the Indiana Conservation Officer Public Safety Dive team.

The DNR says during his short time in District Seven Cooper has proven to be an outstanding officer who admirably serves the citizens and sportsmen of our area.
The district award is selected by the other officers who work within District Seven, which includes ten southwestern Indiana counties

The district award qualifies Officer Cooper for the James D. Pitzer award.  The Pitzer award is given to the top overall Conservation Officer in the state of Indiana and is named after Conservation Officer James D. Pitzer, who was shot and killed in Jay County in 1961.
