Former Loogootee police officer Glen Akles 51 of Loogootee apparently committed suicide after being arrested this week. Akles was arrested Wednesday night after an investigation by Martin County authorities including the Indiana Department of Child Services.  He was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor and patronizing a prostitute.  After his arrest, he bonded out of the Martin County Jail Thursday.

Police report that Akles apparently shot himself at his home Thursday at 4:05 p.m. Subsequently he was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead around 6 p.m.

Akles had served several years with the Loogootee Police Department but resigned approximately three months ago following his arrest for allegedly furnishing alcohol to a minor.
