A state committee is considering its recommendations for replacing Indiana’s troubled ISTEP student test.

The 23-member panel has struggled for months to decide on suggestions to state legislators on how best to revamp the state’s standardized exams that are now taken by more than 400,000 students a year.

Committee members are meeting today at the Statehouse to consider a report it will send to lawmakers. The committee chairwoman said two weeks ago that she intended to propose broad recommendations, while some members wanted to give a detailed plan for testing changes.

The Republican-dominated Legislature voted this year to mandate that the ISTEP test be replaced for the 2017-18 school year. But lawmakers have said that deadline will likely be pushed back.
