The Vincennes Board of Works met in special session Friday to award a contract for the demolition of 9-more homes.

Mullins Supply of Bicknell is scheduled to do the work at a cost of just over 72-thousand dollars. Mullins was the only contractor to put a bid in for the demolition work.

The work will be paid for out of a grant the city received through the State’s Blighted Homes Program. Mullins previously tore down 2-homes in Vincennes that were targeted for demolition.

City Inspector Phil Cooper expects the demolition to commence within the next 10 days.

Once the structures have been razed they will be turned into green space to be cared for by civic groups or adjoining neighbors with anticipation of returning them to the tax rolls. At least two of the properties will be acquired by architect Andy Myszak and new homes built on the lots as part of an effort to improve blighted areas around Vincennes,

Cooper says he has at least 15 more houses targeted for demolition next year. He says they are working through the process of acquiring title to the properties in order to tear them down.
