Vincennes University is partnering with Subaru of Indiana to increase the number of precision machinists needed in the manufacturing field.

Beginning in January, Subaru will employ and mentor new workers while simultaneously supporting their education at VU. In addition, graduates will be prepared to continue their education through Purdue Polytechnic, if they wish.
The goals of the Subaru/VU partnership are to share resources to recruit, screen, employ, and mentor trainees who will work part-time and pursue an associate degree at VU. The M-I-P courses at VU will be structured to support internship scheduling at Subaru.
The plan is to also expand the internship partnership next fall to include other companies that have the same need for precision machinists.

Employment of machinists nationally is projected to grow by 10 percent over the next 10-years. And with Indiana being the nation’s leader in manufacturing, growth here is expected to be even greater.
