Carla Ruth Lockhart Ice, 79, of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

She was born in Lawrence County, Illinois on September 8, 1937.
Carla graduated Fritchton High School in Indiana in 1956. Shortly after her graduation, she married her late husband, Mervin Ray Ice, and the newlyweds moved to West Lafayette, Indiana while Mervin attended Purdue University. After Mervin accepted a job in Harrisburg, the couple established roots in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania in 1974.
Carla’s innate passion for flowers, backed by her formal training at the Hixson School of Design in Cleveland, Ohio and her entrepreneurial spirit inspired her to turn her passion into a business. The Blossom Shop Florist opened its doors on October 6, 1976 and operated for 38 years until closing its doors in 2014.
Carla and her late husband were deeply involved in the Dillsburg community. Her passion for flowers and agriculture was evident beyond her business. Carla loved the Dillsburg Garden Club, served as a local 4-H leader, floriculture advisory board member for Cumberland-Perry Technical School, and a board member of the Society of American Florists. Additionally, Carla judged flower exhibits at Farmers Fair for over 20 years. She was also involved with DECA as a board member, NYCHAPS, the Dillsburg Borough, and many other local organizations. Carla led her life by faith and was an active member at West Shore Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and led floral design events for members of the church and community.
Carla had a gentle, selfless spirit and was kind to all. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and role model for her grandchildren. She was most often found tending to her garden, using her skills as a seamstress, or collecting antiques to decorate her historical home. No detail was too small to Carla, a trait that made her successful in all that she did.
Carla is survived by her son Douglas Ice and daughter Karyn Leftwich, half-sister Martha Jane Roberts, her ten grandchildren and great-grandson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mervin Ray Ice and her son, Mervin Roy Ice, Jr.
Visitation will be held on November 12, 2016 from 11:00 am until noon at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. A celebration of Carla’s life will be held at noon at the funeral home with Pastor Debbie Salters officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery
