Robert “Bob” Paul Byrnes, 69, Vincennes, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital with his wife by his side.

 

Bob was born August 9, 1947, in Knox County, the son of James “Jim” and Helen (Williams) Byrnes. He married Connie Zigler on September 19, 1982. He was the manager of the Harmony Society, where he was a current member, from 1978 to 1980, manager of the Elks Lodge from 1980 to 1982, then opened and owned the Westport Inn for 23 years. Bob loved gardening and fishing. He served in the United States Navy in 1967 and 1968, and served in the Vietnam War doing underwater demolition.
Bob is survived by his wife, Connie; brothers, Jim Byrnes (Tania Robert) of Sebring, FL, Mike (Anita) Byrnes of Knightstown, IN, Jon (Deb) Byrnes of Bruceville; aunt Mary Tippy of Dallas, TX; several nieces and nephews; and good friend, Willie Like of Vincennes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and favorite uncle, Jack.
At Bob’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no visitation. A memorial service held at a later date at the Harmony Society. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harmony Society in Bob’s memory. Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Vincennes Chapel, 313 Church St. assisted the family with arrangements.
