Good Samaritan Hospital’s Men’s Health Tune Up turns 12 years old this year.

The tune up held every year offers a a wide array of vital health screenings specifically aimed toward men. Rob McLin, President and CEO of Good Sam says every year the hospital is amazed by how many men attend the free event and how appreciative they are.  He says the continue to offer the free service because they the impact it is making on these men’s lives.

Some of the screenings include Total Cholesterol, Blood Sugar,  PSA ,  Respiratory Function, Blood Pressure and more.

The Men’s Health Tune-Up began 12 years ago after it was determined that there was a critical need to bring education and health screenings to the public. Last year 600 men from Knox and the surrounding communities took advantage of the free blood screenings. Of those men an astounding 68% had abnormal blood pressure, 45% had abnormal triglyceride screenings, 71% had abnormal LDL and 7% had abnormal PSA numbers.

This year’s event is next Tuesday October 4th from 4to 7p.m. at the Highland Woods Community Center on Hart Street. There will be plenty of other activities in addition to the screenings, including exhibits and demonstrations geared toward men as well as hot dogs and beverages that will be served.
