Merlin R.  Primus, 80, passed away at 11:15 am on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital.
He was born on July 13, 1936 in Knox County the son of Joseph and Elvira (Minderman) Primus.  He married Billie Jean Teising on May 7, 1966.
Merlin was a 1954 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 1956 graduate of Vincennes University. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church. Merlin started working at Baltic Mills in 1967 and became Vice-President working there for twenty- four years. After that he stayed in the grain elevator business retiring from South Side Grain Elevator. Merlin had a passion for fishing and woodworking and keeping his yard immaculate.
Survivors are his wife of fifty years Billie Jean Primus of Vincennes; daughters, Jolene “Jody” Griffith of Vincennes, Gina Kieffer and her husband Chris of Vincennes; grandchildren, Scott Griffith, Carissa Bilskie, Ayla Kieffer, Logan Kieffer; great grandchildren, Sara Bilskie, Jenna Bilskie; sister, Ruth Halter and her husband Bill of Lawrenceville; brother-in-law’s, Dick Teising and his wife Vera of Vincennes, Jim Teising of Vincennes; and sister-in-law, Rita Primus of Vincennes. Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Walter Joe Primus and William “Bill” Primus.
 A celebration of gathering service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at St. John Catholic Church, 803 Main, Vincennes from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 pm with celebrant Rev. David Fleck celebrating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Goodwin Funeral Home has been entrusted with Merlin’s final arrangements. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or Helping His Hands.
