General fund cut in the 28 million dollar plan.

The Daviess County Council completed nearly two days of hearings and approved the 2017 County Budget Thursday morning.  The budget totaling over 28 million dollars was unanimously approved by the council.

There were some cuts  mostly in the general fund where the original amount there was nearly 14,500 but was cut by over $174,000.

The council did increase the County Commissioners budget by adding $4000 to the support for Senior and Family Services. That makes that appropriation go up to 12,000.

The council also agreed to fund the Daviess County Historical Society and Museum $80,000.

Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit told the Council that the County and City of Washington were moving toward a unified emergency dispatch center.  The Sheriff said that all ambulance, fire, and police in the county would be dispatched from one location.   Outside the Council Chambers the Sheriff discussed the co-ordination with the City of Washington.

The Sheriff said having a combined central dispatch would better co-ordinate emergency response and save money for the City and County.

When Council member Jo Arthur asked about a time line for the creation of a central dispatch, the Sheriff said he was looking at after the first of the year.

In other business the Council approved a request by the Economic Development Foundation and Corporation for draws on economic development funds today ills for the on-going Main Street project, Courthouse expenses, and vaccine reimbursements for the Health Department.
