Plans are being finalized for the bicentennial torch relay that is passing through Knox County in celebration of the state’s 200th birthday.

Mark Hill, Co-Coordinator of the Bicenntenial Commission, approached Knox County Commissioners board members Monday evening to give them an update on the torch relay route through the county. Hill said he has approved it with the state police and it is officially a go.

The bicentennial commission is hosting a festival on September 10th and 11th at Grouseland to celebrate the arrival of the torch.

On Sunday, September 11th the torch will be transported along US 41 by 40 local residents to its eventual destination at Grouseland. Hill also notes the torch won’t just be carried by foot, but also by a watermelon bus, combine, and semi- truck to give it some Knox County flair.

The celebration is free and open to the public. Hill says food and gifts will be available to purchase.
