City opts to fund youth sports and not the loft program

The Vincennes City Council Monday appropriated $75,000 from the city’s EDIT fund to be used towards youth sports.

Also,  $100,000 was appropriated from the Riverboat fund to reconstruct Gregg Park’s Vaughn Walking Trail.

Originally, $50,000 was going to be withdrawn from the city’s EDIT fund for the downtown loft program as well as the $75,000 for youth sports, but Mayor Joe Yochum says he didn’t feel there was 100 percent support for the loft program from the council. Yochum added that it is something the UEA should be funding so it was nixed.

Yochum says the $75,000 will go towards facilities for sporting leagues including cub league, soccer, and softball. He’s hoping the funding will be continued for the next four years.

As for the Vaughn Walking trail at Gregg Park, Yochum says they will be taking bids soon on the construction and expects it to be complete by the end of Fall.
