The Knox County Commissioners plan to pursue additional funding through the state for more road improvements.

County Highway Superintendent Donnie Mize told the Commissioners Monday that an Indianapolis Engineering firm has completed an inventory of the county’s roads

He says its the first step in efforts to secure a 50/50 matching grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The state is providing additional dollars for road projects and the first step in that process is implementing a rating system based on need.

Mize says based on the engineers report they will be submitting funding for four projects including resurfacing 5 miles of Old U.S. 41, Mount Zion Road between U.S. 50 and State Road 61, Old Wheatland Road from Alvis Music to Frichton and South Sixth Street Road.

The County received 1-point-4 million dollars in new road funding from the state this spring which they hope to use to levy an additional 1-million dollars in road funding from INDOT. Mize says they should receive word on whether their grant request is approved by September.
