Construction of a new County Highway office building plus, 3-million dollars in road paving and repairs are all part of the new three year EDIT plan approved by the Knox County Commissioners Monday Night.

The plan also includes 200-thousand dollars to repair roads in Monroe City damaged due to truck traffic while Highway 61 was closed through town. The plan will spend money from the county’s Economic Income Tax. The plan is just a proposal at this point and any of the project listed in the plan still must be approved by the Knox County Council.

The plan also includes 500-thousand dollars in Bridge Construction and repairs.

The Commissioners last night also approved an ordinance calling for Uniform Internal Control Standards. According to County Attorney Dale Webster, the state mandated ordinance creates a system of checks and balances for those county employees who handle money.

Webster says the ordinance is intended to make sure one person doesn’t have control over the entire process in each department.

Training will be required of each county department on an annual basis and county department heads will designate which individuals are required to go through the training process.
