The Vincennes Salvation Army is having “Christmas in July.”

Volunteer bell ringers will be out at the Vincennes Wal-Mart collecting monetary donations to support the Salvation Army’s mission. Lieutenant Laura Lunnam says donations have hit a slump this summer. She says the economy has hit the community hard and some residents need a little help getting by.

Bell ringers will be outside Wal- Mart today through Saturday from 9 AM to 8 PM. The bucket brigade will take place at the corner of 15th and Hart Streets for those who wish to donate, but don’t want to get out of their car.

This is the first year that the Salvation Army is having “Christmas in July”, and Lunnam says she hopes to raise at least $10,000.
