System-wide enrollment is down at Vincennes University.

Kristi Deetz, Senior Director of External Relations told members of the VU Board of Trustees today that enrollment is down 5-point-4 percent on the Vincennes campus and 6-point-two percent system-wide.

VU President Chuck Johnson noted that community colleges like Vincennes normally see a drop in enrollment when the economy is strong.

Johnson says one of the ways VU plans to address the problem is by attracting more international students to campus. He says VU has worked out an articulation agreement with the Nan-Jing Institute of Tourism and Hospitality in China that will enable their students to travel abroad and earn a degree.

Johnson says VU is also reaching out to students living in Illinois by offering scholarships to attend classes here. So far, 69 new students from Illinois have taken advantage of the scholarship offer by registering for classes.
