The Knox County Public Library has been awarded a $50,000 Heritage Support Grant to continue digitization of the library’s historical documents.

Library Director Emily Bunyan says the money will allow the library to hire a part-time employee to begin digitizing court records from 1796 through 1805.

Bunyan says the records will be downloaded onto website called Indiana Memories which contains items and photographs pertaining to the history of the state. She says scholars from all over the world have access to the site for research among other things.

Meanwhile, The Knox County Library Board has proved spending $9,000 to have the doors at the Fortnightly Club re-painted. The board also approved the purchase of seven custom built storage cabinets for use by the Youth Department at a cost of $13,000.

In other business, Judy Kratzner with the Friends of the Library announced they will be hosting their monthly book sale this Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm at the Fortnightly.
