David Leroy Whitcomb, 66, of Vincennes

David Leroy Whitcomb, 66, resident of Vincennes, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, May 15, 2016.
“Dave” was born on November 20, 1949, in Ridgway, PA, to Clarence “Curly” Thomas and Marjorie “Margie” Naomi (Smith) Whitcomb. Dave graduated from Penn State University in 1971 with a Baccalaureate degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired as Assistant District Manager from the US Department of Labor’s Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) in 2011 after 38 years of service in Madisonville, KY; Benton, IL and Vincennes, IN.
He is survived by his three daughters: Wendy Leigh Whitcomb Docker (spouse Bryan E. Docker); Carrie Leigh Pitman (spouse Ronald D. Pitman II) residing in Indianapolis, IN; and Jennifer Leigh Helregel, (spouse Shannon L. Helregel) residing in Lawrenceville, IL. Grandchildren include Ayden Leroy and Riley James Docker, Ronald D. Pitman III, and Allyson Leigh and Grant Lawrence Helregel. Also surviving are his older sister Marilyn (Whitcomb) Kerr (spouse Bob Kerr) and their adult children, Kristen, Brian, and Kathy and Dave’s twin brother Dennis James Whitcomb; and Dave’s former wife and mother to his three daughters, Peggy J. (Gardner) Vaughn.
Dave loved tinkering in the garage, rebuilding his MGBs, attending races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, playing solitaire, and spending time with his 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren. Dave passed on his loves of reading and Sci-Fi to his daughter Wendy, his knack for numbers to his daughter Carrie, and his love of tools, cars, and woodworking to his daughter Jennifer.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Clarence and Marjorie Whitcomb, and his beloved, cantankerous feline, Buster Brown.
