George D Tomson, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in Cincinnati, OH.  Born September 16, 1931 to George H. D.  and Mary (Emmons) Tomson, he spent his childhood in Ragsdale, Indiana where he lived just up the street from his future wife, Jane Scott.  His family eventually moved to Vincennes where George graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949.  Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a corpsman in the Korean War.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he moved to Indianapolis to study mortuary science.  He happened to re-meet Jane Scott, the little girl down the street from his childhood, who was studying nursing in Indianapolis at the time.  The two began dating and were married on December 23rd, 1955.   Jane lost a long battle with cancer in 1981 and George devoted his energy to seeing his children, Scott and Sue, graduate from DePauw University and move on to successful careers.   George loved politics and held various positions in county government, including the Knox County Recorder and the Veteran’s Service Officer.  He was a longtime member of the American Legion and VFW.

In 2003, George moved to Cincinnati to be closer to Sue’s family.  “Pa” and his grandson, Max, were daily companions and shared many great times together – a blessing to both of them.

George is survived by his sister, Betty Taylor, Vincennes, Indiana;  his children Scott, Seeley Lake, Montana and Sue, Cincinnati, Ohio along with their respective families: and several nieces and nephews.  He was a wonderful father and grandfather and we will miss him dearly.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister, Frances Harris.

A memorial gathering will be held at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church community room, Vincennes, from 2-4 PM on Monday, May 30th.  All friends and family are welcome to attend.
