The family was safe but lost a pet in Saturday night’s blaze.

Vincennes firefighters battled a house fire over the weekend.

Fire chief Sonny Pinkstaff says just after 11pm Saturday a call came into dispatch concerning a structure fire at 803 N. 8th Street with visible smoke and flames visible.

Upon arrival firefighters battled the two story fire–bringing the fire under control about an hour later.

All occupants of the house had escaped. Unfortunately the family’s pet dog perished in the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family

Fire crews remained in scene until 4am Sunday, continuing to extinguish hot spots.

The State Fire Marshall will investigating the cause of the fire on Monday.
