Mayor tells council about the over 1 million received from the state. In other business, another intersection made into a 4 way stop.

Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum shared with members of the City of Council last night the amount of money they received from the state to repair local roads and streets. The Mayor reported the city will receive a little over 1-million, 20-thousand dollars. The money was appropriated as part of a bill passed by the Indiana General Assembly to address infrasturcture needs in local communities.

City Engineer John Sprague has compiled a list of streets that need attention. However, Yochum says they don’t want to advertise for bids just yet because there is an opportunity to receive even more money under a matching fund program through the state.

Yochum says 75-percent of the money will go to road paving and 25-percent to other infrastructure projects.

Traffic will no longer be regulated by an automatic stoplight at 7th and Main Streets in Vincennes. Instead, the intersection will be turned into a four-way stop. The Vincennes Board of Works had approved the change on a 90-day trial basis. Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum says there have been no major complaints from the pubic and no accidents have occured at that intersection. The Vincennes City Council last night went ahead and voted to turn the intersection into a permanent 4-way stop. It’s the second intersection downtown to have the traffic signal removed. The Council earlier approved removing the stoplight at 7th and Busseron streets and making it a four-way stop as well.
