Good Samaritan Hospital’s Trauma Center is filling a void in the immediate area for patients suffering from severe injuries.

Hospital President and CEO Rob McLin says not only are they saving lives but saving patients money.

McLin says Good Samaritan is seeking to become a level three trauma center. A pair of surveyors from the American College of Surgeons will be visiting the hospital next month to see if G-S-H meets all the requirements for accreditation.

Those include 24-hour immediate coverage by -E-R physicians and prompt availability of general surgeons and anesthesiologists.

Doctor David Purdom who heads the Hospital’s Trauma Services Team says of the 763 patients they’ve seen over the past year nearly 90-percent have received all of their treatment at G-S-H without having to be sent to another facility. That includes at least 97-cases from Illinois.
