Dale Lynn Carstens, 76, Sault Ste. Marie, passed away on Tuesday March 24, 2015.

 

Dale Lynn Carstens, 76,  was born on Jan. 5, 1939 in Oaktown, Indiana to Herman Mack and Myra Geraldine (Groom) Carstens. He married Jane Byers on Jan. 9, 1960. They lived their lives together in Indiana, California and Ohio until settling in the late 1960’s in Sault Ste. Marie. Lynn graduated from Oaktown High School, Vincennes University and Purdue
University. He spent most of his career as a professor of mechanical engineering at Lake Superior State College in The Soo before retiring in 1994. Lynn loved to travel and spend time with his family. He loved riding his ATV in the Arizona desert, watching NASCAR racing, and listening to classic country. He was an artist — creating beautiful horseshoe sculptures and could fix anything mechanical.
Lynn is survived by his three children, Kelly Bailo and her husband, Steve of South
Lyon, Toni Carstens and her husband, Gene Matter of Folsom, California and James
Mack Carstens and his wife Holly, of Barbeau; six grandchildren, Mallary Green, Lt. j.g. Christina Bailo, Lyndsay Matter, MiKayla Carstens, Leia Matter, and Jamie Carstens; and two great-grandchildren, Andrea and Matthew Green.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Oaktown Cemetery with Richard Stewart officiating. Local arrangements were handled by Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Oaktown Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in his or Jane’s name.
