Renovation bids for Riley have come in under budget….

The Vincennes School Board received an update last night on planned renovations to the school corporations 4-elementary schools. Architect Andy Myszak reported that bids for renovations at Riley Elementary School came in below budget estimates. Superintendent Greg Parsley says the lower cost estimates will allow them to look at doing some additional upgrades to the building.

Work at Riley will include an all heating and air conditioning system, electrical upgrades and repainting. Myszak reported that bids will be opened for Tecumseh-Harrison and Vigo elementary this week and Franklin Elementary next week.

In a related matter, the School Board held a public hearing last night about the use of other facilities for classroom space while construction is underway at Riley.Parsley says the Washington Christian Center and Free Methodist Church in Vincennes have offered to provide facilities for at least the first semester of the 2016-17 school year. No one from the public objected to the proposal. Parsleys says he will bring a formal agreement for school board members to consider at their May meeting.

In the meantime, the school corporation is preparing to sell bonds in order to finance the remodeling project..

The price for school lunches is going up in the Vincennes School Corporation. The school board last night agreed to raise the price for meals by a dime fpr grades K-thru-12. That brings the average price for a meal to 2-dollars and 66-cents.

Board members also approved a bid from Barth Electric for new lighting at Inman Field. Superintendent Greg Parsley says the original bid was for 124-thousand dollars. However, Parsley also recommended an additional 39-thousand dollars to add a remote monitoring system similar to what they have at Hill Field. The additional cost also includes a 25-year warranty for the lighting. The school board also awarded Barth Electric 12-thousand dollars to run all new speaker wire and install speakers on the visitor;s side of Inman Field.
