Wildlife area being added to Fox Ridge, new restrooms coming to Hillcrest

The Knox County Parks and Recreation Department have made some revisions to their Fox Ridge Nature Park blueprint. The Parks Department recently revised their engineering plans to include a wildlife viewing area as part of the requirements of the $200,000 federal grant they received. Engineer John Sprague is adding the viewing area into the plans and then it will be sent to DNR for approval.

Parks Superintendent Roma Sobhani explains the next piece of the puzzle after DNR approves the wildlife viewing area.

The newly redesigned Fox Ridge Nature Park, which used to be a golf course, will also include shelter houses, restrooms, picnic tables, and a fishing dock. As required by the Land and Water Conservation Fund’s mandate, at least a half mile of new walking trails will be added. The park is located where Hillcrest Road meets Old Bruceville Road and is expected to be complete by December of 2017.

The Knox County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking bids from contractors to install new restrooms at Hillcrest Park. The restrooms are in poor condition and updates have been needed for years. The new lavatories will be bigger and ADA accessible. Aesthetic changes include new paint and the installation of windows. New pipes and valves will be added as well. The Parks Department has set aside $15,000 for the project and hope to have it completed before the end of summer.
