With over a half dozen more advocates, officials say there is still a neeed.

8 new CASA volunteers were sworn in during a noon time ceremony yesterday at the Knox County Courthouse.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Aadvocates.

The volunteers represent the rights of children in “CHIN” cases.

CASA director Dena Held says volunteers go through a 30 hour training program which includes information on laws and how they can express the needs of children in the courtroom. Held added there remains a need for more volunteers with a backlog of CHIN cases still pending. She says the next training class for CASA volunteers will be in June.
